A vision on video?
16th AUGUST News reaches us of an Elvis-type appearance of Jesus during an evangelistic crusade in Romania, which was apparently captured on video tape. Our correspondent, Wyatt Harris, sent us these two screen shots from the tape, and tells the story behind it. He writes..."My family received a copy of a video tape that supposedly has footage of a Romanian crusade. It's during a healing session and over in the corner this woman is being healed of something. The camera pans to her and standing there is a man who fits the popular description of Jesus. Long hair, beard and olive skin, wearing a long white robe-type garment. Everyone around him in the meeting is fair of skin and dressed in a modern way, so he is totally out of place. No one notices him during the meeting and it's only later while viewing the tape that they see this person and no one knows who he is. That's the story and I've seen the tape." If anyone has any further information about this, or knows how we can get in touch with the leader of the crusade, Buz Treme, please let us know.
Eastern guys, western pops14th AUGUST For fans of Rev Alexandra Coe and her theological cabaret, we have a new composition on that most happening of all subjects: the relative merits of Eastern and Western patristics. Set to the tune of the Beach Boys' "California Girls"...
Those Eastern fathers write in Greek and say free will's all right,
Well, these doctrinal debates make me wanna hurl!Well Egypt gets the sunshine and the monks all get so tanned St Simeon Stylites at the top of his pole prays 60 feet above the sand The Western brothers live on beans and whip themselves all night They wannabe a martyr (or get the stigmata) and then they'll feel all right.
Well, I wish they'd just get drunk and go chase some girls!© Alexandra Coe & Simon Jenkins 1999 Good Samaritan gets an A-grade14th AUGUST Urban legends are enjoying a new lease of life on the Net, and this one claims to be based on a real event in 1970 at Princeton University.According to the story, a final exam for a course in the life of Jesus was given at a religious institute. The students arrived for the exam only to find a notice telling them that the test had been moved to another building at the other side of the campus. As the students ran to the other location, they were approached by a beggar who asked for help. Only one student stopped to help the beggar and he alone received an A-grade on the course. The others failed because they had obviously missed Jesus' basic message. Look out for this legend at a sermon near you...
